Condition

Overall very good condition. The turtle-back glass inset in the base displays strong luminous iridization which is complemented by the pulled feather decoration of the candle cup. The turtle-back tiles all appear original and undisturbed and are in very good condition with traces of light surface soiling to the contours adjacent to the leadlines and with traces of wax residue. The patinated bronze standard displays a rich green and russet brown patina with occasional surface scratches, abrasions, and traces of wax residue. The coloration of the patina is much warmer in tone than seen in the catalogue illustration, which is too cool and blue. The favrile glass candle cup with some minor air bubbles and particulate inclusions inherent in the making and not visually detractive. A superb example of this rare Turtle-Back tile candlestick form displaying harmonious design and proportion.
