Set with a carnelian intaglio of Zeus wearing a laurel wreath, signed Burch R.A., mounted as an early 19th century seal engraved with a border of shells, the handle modelled as a stylised lyre composed of foliate scrolls.
Condition
Intaglio signed Burch R.A. The carnelian displaying an agate brown colour, translucent, with a typical banded structure visible. Intaglio in good condition with some evidence of minor chipping and scratching to the stone's surface. Overall in fair to good condition with some evidence of discoloration to the gold and wear throughout, consistent with age. Dimensions approximately 40 x 25 mm. Gross weight approximately 20 grams.
