This armchair model is found in La Lecture de Molière, the famous painting by Jean-François de Troy painted around 1730 which depicts a group of young women seated comfortably. It is simultaneously an advocacy for the art of living during the early reign of Louis XV and a testament on the art of chair carpentry from that era.
