拍品資料及來源

In 1947, Henri Cartier-Bresson, with Robert Capa, George Rodger, David Seymour and William Vandivert, founded Magnum Photos. In the following year, Cartier-Bresson travelled to India, where he produced some of the seminal works of his career. One such image is Srinagar, Kashmir, which depicts Muslim women in prayer at Hari Parbal Hill with the sun rising over the Himalayas in the background. This captivating image exhibits what Cartier-Bresson termed “the decisive moment”; the intuitive moment in which the photographer captures a unique and perfectly balanced scene. Peter Fetterman, who famously collected the work of Cartier-Bresson, recalls his personal connection with Srinagar, Kashmir: ‘It’s the gesture, the humanity of the relationship between these women. It stuck with me forever.’ (P. Fetterman quoted in ‘Henri Cartier-Bresson’s Last Dealer Parts With His Collection’, 11 December 2017, https://www.barrons.com/articles/henri-cartier-bressons-l'ast-dealer-parts-with-his-collection-1513019735)
