An architect by training, Vok is also a renowned collector, whose eclectic taste, spanning Chinese celadons, ceramics and furniture as well as Anatolian Kilims and Suzanis has been the subject of numerous catalogues and exhibitions.

This dish, with its exceptional and dense floral designs, belongs to a group whose decoration is described by Yolande Crowe as "luscious flowers" (Similar examples are illustrated in Y. Crowe, Persia and China: Safavid blue and white ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum, 1501-1738, London, 2002, pp.228-9, nos.391 and 392).
