Excellent condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Some white and red pigments remain inside the cup.

« Les récipients à pigments comptent parmi les joyaux de la sculpture du moyen Sepik. La partie creuse est souvent travaillée à l’image d’un corps animal, tandis que la tête est généralement celle d’un crocodile » (Peltier, Schindlbeck et Kaufmann, Sepik. Arts de Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée, 2015, p. 243). Au classicisme de la forme répond ici l’ancienneté de l’objet, dont la patine - où subsistent des traces de pigments – témoigne d’un usage prolongé.
