Good condition overall. As visible on the catalogue illustration the proper left side of the mask is very eroded and a ear is missing. Nose and mouth are eroded but consistent with age and ritual handling. Beautiful dark brown patina encrusted in some places.

Associé aux rites initiatiques, durant lesquels il est chargé d’apporter la nourriture aux postulants, le masque deangle incarne « l’idéal de beauté des Dan. » (Neyt, Trésors de Côte d’Ivoire, 2014, p. 44). Au sein de ce corpus éminemment esthétique, ce masque s’affirme par la sereine plénitude de sa physionomie, conjuguant naturalisme et idéalisation. Les traits du visage, tout en délicatesse – yeux fendus, nez droit, bouche ourlée – soulignent la beauté du modelé, que rehausse la patine sombre. Couronnant ce visage parfaitement équilibré, la double-ligne de perforations marquant autrefois l’emplacement d’une coiffe, offre une ultime parure minimaliste.
