Condition
Overall very good condition. The 25 prisms are in overall very good condition and present with a beautiful range of iridescence which is even more luminous when viewed in person compared to the printed catalogue illustration. Each prism presents with scattered minor air bubbles and particulate inclusions inherent in the making, and some extremely minor and expected fleabites along its edges consistent with age and gentle handling. Three prisms each with one or two slightly larger chips and clamshells to the edges, the largest measuring approximately 1/4 inch high. Six prisms each with small chips to their tips, the largest measuring approximately 1/4 inch wide, visible on the lower tier of prisms in the catalogue illustration. One prism with a clamshell chip to the reverse adjacent to the hole for the hook measuring approximately 1/2 inch wide. The gilt bronze mount in very good condition with scattered extremely minor discolorations and a few minute drips of white house paint. One small middle section between two of the “star” decorations of the crown with a small vertical crack, visible in the catalogue illustration. The lower ring from which the lower tier of prisms is suspended with some extra holes, suggesting that the prisms and ball chains may have been redistributed at some point in the history of the piece. With a period socket and chain. With a later replaced ceiling canopy with scattered discolorations and a small, shallow puncture measuring approximately 1/8 inch high, not visually detractive. An extremely elegant example of Tiffany’s prism lighting displaying a refined small scale.
