Condition

This photograph is in generally very good to excellent condition. Upon close examination in high raking light, there is a barely perceptible 2-inch crease to the left of the sitter; this is soft and possibly occurred during mounting. Also visible only upon close examination in raking light is a small deposit of retouching and a faint 4-inch diagonal scuff in the upper left corner. On the reverse of the mount, the photographer's studio stamp - with date in ink - is crossed out. The photographer's estate stamp - with date in ink - is signed by Michael Ward Stout, executor. The following notations are in ink on the reverse: '[MAP] 1883'; 'Andy Warhol'; '10/10' and '1986.' There are several crossed out annotations including '8/10' and 'Exhibition Print.'

'I was in art school when pop art was the rage. I was in academic art training at the time, and I wasn’t following the trends; I was doing my thing. But since I come out of that time, the Warhol influence is there.' – Robert Mapplethorpe
