此盒狀似魚形，由上下兩半組成，尾端用軸釘連貫，可開可合。軸釘上有花形鈕，下墊黃銅菊花紋護眼錢。盒子下半挖缺藏骨製秤杆、白銅秤盤與砝碼。盒蓋用金屬嵌 「王記」二字。

這類小型戥子，是秤量貴重物品和藥物的衡器，收納在紋理生動的黃花梨盒中，殊為別緻。

北京故宮博物院藏一件與現例相似的戥子盒，但為黑漆描金，收錄於朱家溍及夏更起編，《中國漆器全集》，卷5：明，褔州，1995年，圖版 152。
