《男士肖像》乃常玉少見的雙面繪畫，其兩面分別以水墨水彩及水墨碳筆，完整創作男士的側面頭象。從其鬈蓬的髮型、寛廣的高額與挺拔的鼻樑看來，應為同一模特；若與攝影大師曼．雷（Man Ray）的《賈克梅蒂肖像》並觀，則會發現此幅常玉人物，竟然與年輕的瑞士雕塑大師賈克梅蒂（Alberto Giacometti）高度相似。考常玉筆下人物，有一系列作品與「蒙帕拿斯的琪琪」（Kiki de Montparnasse）造型極為相似，琪琪亦曾表示需要學習中文以便與中國朋友溝通，兩人應該彼此認識；加上琪琪曾與曼．雷有過一段漫長戀情，不由得讓人推測常玉因琪琪而與曼．雷有所來往；至於賈克梅蒂，更是巧合地與常玉同年生卒，兩人在蒙帕拿斯的住處亦相距不遠。在重重史料佐證之下，此幅《男士肖像》可謂結合常玉、曼．雷、賈克梅蒂三位現代繪畫、攝影與雕塑大師的作品，誠為珍罕的歷史見證。
