Condition
In good condition with gentle wear to the mounting, commensurate with age. The sapphires are medium deep blue and violetish-blue respectively, lightly included with some surface wear in the form of abrasions, small chips and scratches, only visible under close inspection. One sapphire is slightly loose in its mounting which could be attended to by a jeweler. The marquise-cut diamonds are approximately I-K color, VS-SI clarity; the round and baguette diamonds are approximately G-I color, VS-SI clarity. Accompanied by AGL report no. CS 1081150 A and B stating that the sapphires are of Ceylon origin, with no indications of heating.

1901年,鐵路大王摩頓·F·普蘭特(Morton F. Plant)以100萬美元價錢,從威廉·K·范德比爾特(William K Vanderbilt)手上購得第五大道與52街交界的東南方街角。普蘭特立刻邀請建築師羅伯特·W·吉普森(Robert W. Gibson)發展地皮,其石灰石大宅在1905年建成。普蘭特對新居甚為滿意,但鄰居對該區日漸濃厚的商業氣息頗感煩厭,卡地亞在第五大街與56街交界開設首家紐約門市,先前的懷疑終於成真。
1913年,普蘭特妻子逝世,遂迎娶梅伊·柯爾德威爾·曼納林(Mae Caldwell Manwaring),並在第五大道86街1031號為妻子建設新居。卡地亞先例一開,各品牌紛紛效法,范德比爾特等各家族紛紛移居郊區。普蘭特對先前投資舊區的價格頗感懷疑,遂謀求把物業脫手之法。1917年,普蘭特妻子提及在卡地亞櫥窗見到一條甚得她歡心的雙行珍珠項鏈,解答似乎浮現,烏雲一掃而空。「百萬大道」商業氣息漸濃,郊區大宅也將要竣工,普蘭特遂答應卡地亞向他提出的條件:卡地亞將購下該塊地皮,並以價值100萬美元的珍珠項鏈作交換。
卡地亞雖翻新物業以迎合業務需要,但大樓仍保有原來風貌,沒有大幅改動,1970年更獲選為紐約地標。普蘭特夫人後來改嫁約翰·羅文斯基,但對收藏珠寶熱情終身不退,當然以卡地亞的珍稀瑰寶尤甚。羅文斯基夫人舊藏於1957年售於Parke-Bernet拍賣行,是次上拍別針當時的編號為125。拍品編號114及116,為兩串珍罕珍珠,據報正是當時心儀的珍珠,亦有在該次拍賣中亮相。此枚別針優雅迷人,設計歷久不衰,來源與外表同樣奪目耀眼,實在是珍稀瑰寶的最佳典例。
