註:本卷乃溥氏一九二五年為舊京圓通寺住持濬海所書,全文近五百字,述臨濟宗磬山下系源流,上下數千年,統宗正脈,譜系清晰。
晚清民國,臨濟宗是北京最具影響力的佛教派別。圓廣寺創建於明隆慶五年(1517),位於阜成門內,係十方常住,可想見當時規模。佛教各宗派皆重傳法正宗,叢林住持,例向傳法之師申請嗣法書,亦有由極具聲望者書寫之先例,濬海請舊王孫書寫譜系,無乃榮耀之事。
濬海(約1895- ?),俗姓高,河北昌平人,光緒年間出家。曾住錫戒臺寺,住持蓮社寺,一九二○年至三九年間任圓廣寺住持。他與溥氏乃戒臺寺時期舊友,一九三三年心畬曾書跋追憶兩人寺中交往,曰「晨夕同游於山巔水涘,若良侶然。暇時嘗為師寫經卷,輒蒙收錄」。兩人分別出山後,交往從此漸少。
