註：本幅共三卷，各具畫作兩段，每段尺幅、風格相若，以狀寫鍾馗百態為題；而題簽或引首皆出自曼公或其友應囑而書，綜合觀之，三者應出同源，或散落分拆，日後分裝為三。
簽上由「曼公」題「少雲畫贈」。「曼公」即吳觀海（1895-1979），字頌芄，號飛雨詞人，常州人。世家出身，父吳稚英、舅莊蘊寬活躍於於晚清民初政壇。他早年從政，抗戰爆發，隱居上海。四九年後擔任上海文物保管委員會編撰。工詩書，對碑帖、書畫、篆刻、青銅器皆有研究，碑拓收藏甚豐，與文化藝術界人士多有切磋研究，與羅振玉、沈尹默、樊浩霖等往來尤密。本幅乃樊浩霖寫贈，樊氏精繪山水，鮮寫人物，如畫中寫夜巡、嫁妹、烹蟹、聽樂，皆狀鍾進士諸般情態，似出於畫家想像，人物造型誇張諧趣，想像力豐富，具幽默感，與傳統迥異，寫來率性隨心，筆墨酣暢，洵屬樊氏偶一為之者。
