註：黃永玉飼養動物甚多，家中寵物每每成為創作題材。六十年代初，家中蓄貓兒「大白」，甚得家人歡心，年僅數歲的女兒黑妮更愛為牠繪像，下筆時，總繪上圓圓大眼及描上神氣的胡鬚，憨拙可愛，作品〈黑貓〉更於第二屆國際兒童美術展覽會獲一等獎。本幅於一九七三年秋，略取黑妮的風格畫貓，題句似孩童口吻，逗樂小友，並手繪「黃」、「貓」二印，筆下流露純乎天真稚趣，殊為難得。
