with rounded sides rising from a flat base to constricted neck and rolled rim, the interior of the vessel and outer rim glazed russet, the unglazed exterior fired to a rich reddish-brown colour and finely decorated to the globular body with a combed design of concentric arcs, all below a band of thick pearly glaze studs encircling the neck

The rim with a 3.8cm wide repaired chip with associated overpainting. There is a 4cm hairline visible to the exterior.

Jars of this type were possibly made in imitation of basketwork rice measures and are known from the Ganzhou kilns, located in Jiangxi province.
