Condition
This fragile rock has been broken in two places in the past and carefully refixed without any loss to the integrity of its form. Other minor areas of polishing to the fragile brittle tips. The painting is in good condition.

1970年代後期自江蘇省國畫院畢業，1981年劉丹前往美，自此一直在美國及英國兩地生活至2004年。翌年回國不久後便創作了這幅作品。在西方廿多年的生活，使他熟諳西方當代藝術趨勢，但他選擇結合中國水墨的新舊傳統，持續以傳統媒材創作令人驚嘆的當代中國山水。北宋大家的作品，常為他所創作山石作品的主要靈感來源。
儘管劉丹常以其奇石巨觀作品面世，這件作品卻是難得的原寸創作，費心勾勒每個洞壑巉巖直臻完美。劉丹認為不論是繪畫或自然造化，石頭都是「山水自然的幹細胞」，核心中的核心。
