朱剛出身書法世家，其父為二十世紀重要中國藝術專家吳湖帆的著名門生。朱剛深受南宋的寫意畫風薰陶，試圖從傳統中解放，追求抽象表現手法。他運用簡練筆觸及精湛書藝，結合漲墨和飛白兩種畫法，使意指「意象」的混合字既能保持字形，同時躍然整幅畫面之上。「如果能產生共嗚，這種溝通，我稱之為『意象』。」── 朱剛，2016年訪問
