Condition

The painting is overall in good condition. As the work was formerly a hanging scroll, there are undulations in the paper but the image is unaffected. Improvements can be made with remounting. The original title slip is preserved and mounted on the back of the current frame. Overall framed dimensions: 144.7 by 69.4 cm; 57 by 27 1/4 in.

王己千,同代人識為CC Wang,為中國當代水墨藝術先軀。《山水第472號》乃王氏畫風成熟之時期所作,地位極為重要,當中既有揉折紙團作畫之餘韻,亦有以濃艷礦物色彩於紙背著色之新法,兩者融合無間。本作構圖為意筆山水,採俯瞰視角得平遠之妙,同時兼顧高遠,目光遊走重巒疊峰間,有別於宋元山水中氣勢磅礴之崇山峻嶺。湖泊色彩湛藍,與黃赭山嶺形成強烈對比,別具雅趣,似乎忠實描繪荒瘠不毛之地,但本作筆意恣意灑脫,可見此情此景實為畫家心中意境。王氏作品糅合創新精神與即興筆意,體現藝術家童心未泯的灑脫性格,在傳統底蘊中追求現代趣味。

《山水第472號》乃作於王氏「靈感創意飛躍」的時期,時為1983年初,適逢王氏經歷一場生死一線的重大手術,逐漸復元。一個月內,王氏一連繪下四幅構圖用色相類之作品,且均為立軸,與早年繪下的「龍脈」系列大相逕庭。藝術家專心致志鑽研同一藝術主題,然而每幅作品對比前作均有所變動,且需於短時間內完成,方有本作誕生。《山水第472號》曾於1983年在台北國立歷史博物館之王己千展覽中展出,後多處著錄,乃王氏畫風成熟時期之代表作。據謝柏軻所言,本時期共有九幅畫作,印證「藝術家芸芸作品中最富有個人情感及原創精神之典例,充分表現將自身文人雅趣化為現代新詮之變革,其藝術價值底蘊無庸置疑」1

本時期之畫風色彩明艷,而且更見王氏所獨創「紙背繪畫」之技藝,王氏於畫紙背面重覆施以顏料,需要大量時間心力,方可繪出成品。王氏早年揉折紙團蘸墨而成山水,然而成熟期畫作卻與之迥異,改於畫紙正反兩面繪畫,從而體現藝術家與媒材間自然展開之對話。王氏表示,運用此技巧「繪出來的並不是實色——有些顏料能穿透紙背,有些則不能。此技頗有現代意涵。用此技巧,可繪出自然的筆跡,帶出自然感覺。我也不知道出來的效果是怎麼樣,因為顏料在哪裡透出、哪裡不透出,我是很難控制的」2
