《剝落的馬賽克3號》以不完整的馬賽克牆為題，把剝落部份化為畫面焦點，並以竭色處理，反而周邊沒有剝落的部份，則以薄薄的一層的油彩填上。剝落部份的顏色層次有著豐富的細微變化，藝術家仿中國水墨畫的技巧把稀釋單一顏料，從容不迫地把馬賽克的空間感表現出來，彷彿在平面的畫布上透視著生命的律動。馬賽克系列是藝術家具重要性及影響力的藝術主題，它更引伸至其後的一系列的空間繪畫，完美呈現了他如何把中國畫的技法應用在西畫的媒介上，確立了他在國際畫壇獨一無二的地位。
