This work is in good condition with hairline vertical craquelures along the top edges and minor abrasions to the impasto near the lower left edge. No evidence of restoration under UV examination.

《重複》(拍品編號717)展現質樸的幾何結構,萃集山口的創作精髓,其標誌獨特,遠處一看便能辨識。本作靜謐沉穩,深具建築風格,如同創造支撐皮膚、形體與肌肉的骨幹,足證山口對畫作結構的堅持。他在學生時期曾以模特兒作畫,對複製身體表面細節不感興趣,喜以掌握並表達當中的象徵。山口其後前赴巴黎,每週探訪俄籍法國雕塑家奧西普·薩金的工作室,嘗試創作雕塑,對他的畫作帶來重要啟發。
山口後來以「平面雕塑」形容其作,將立體物件轉移至平面空間。2卡茲米爾·馬列維奇的至上主義畫作同樣以平面著稱,描繪簡約的幾何形態,相較下山口的構圖具備有形的密度、質量和觸感。這種觸感更是其不可或缺的創作元素,他曾說:「我愈來愈重視事物真實或有形的存在與觸感。透過親身觸碰,肯定事物確實存在,繼而研究當中各種構造,換句話說,便是以科學方式切入主題。」3
這種科學化的創作方向,建構自人與世界的接觸,與馬列維奇以自我出發、與外在事物毫無關係的藝術截然不同。山口的抽象形態演變自人類、動物、植物、世界,以至全宇宙,匯集箇中精髓。他不以任何形式表現或敘述,全無任何符號標示,如同世上最早出現的甲骨文,以圖象或「記錄」呈現世界無形的核心本質。如此看來,他的作品如同皮耶·蘇拉吉的幾何單色畫,當中非表意的純粹美學令人聯想到東方文字,蘇拉吉更曾表示:「有一天,我發現,我的作品與中文字有些相似。」4
