Condition
The brushpot is in overall good condition with minor surface wear and dents as well as minute nicks to the edges of the rim and base. There are also faint age cracks extending from the rim.

Signed by Huang Yongzhang and dated to 1895, the inscription on this piece indicates that it was made at the Shiny Rock Pavilion (Shizhao ting), in Hubei province. The pavilion acquired its name from a large rock, the surface of which shone like a mirror and glowed when the sun shone upon it at sunset. It appears to have been abandoned during the late Ming dynasty and reconstructed during the Kangxi reign.
