楊詰蒼生於佛山，1962年在文革巔峰時期開始學習水墨畫，1982年畢業於廣州美術學院國畫系，隨後留校任教至1988年。他在八十年代積極研習道家及禪宗佛學，並對他的藝術理念帶來深遠影響，認為創作必須與個人的內心信念一致。楊氏於1989年受龐畢度現代藝術中心赴巴黎舉辦首個海外展覽，其《千層墨》系列使他廣獲國際認可，被譽為首屈一指的概念藝術家。藝術家每天在同一畫幅繪上層層水墨，構成如此發人深省的系列，作為他於1989年至1999年的個人歷史紀錄。在過去十多年來，楊氏的創作不斷演變，並深受德國浪漫主義哲理影響。他以千瘡百孔的題材表現出紛亂場面，反映不同身份交集與各國界限的時事。他的《聽日多雲》系列（拍品編號540、545及554）源自一個伊朗展覽，有關核能危機持續不斷的激烈爭議。楊氏作品被納入世界各地藝術館及大型收藏，包括大都會藝術博物館、福岡市美術館、洛克菲勒基金會及尤倫斯基金會。
