邱志傑是中國最知名的概念藝術家之一，作品涵蓋版畫、攝影、攝像、書法、裝置及表演藝術。他自幼接受傳統書法訓練，畢業於杭州浙江美術學院版畫系，其紙上作品與中國古代藝術風格相似，啟發當代觀者追根溯源，回歸本真。邱氏可被稱作是一位文化考古學家，以縝密的心思將歷史呈現觀者眼前，以啟發對未來的思考。他的多件概念作品曾於全球逾一百間機構及展覽中亮相，包括第53屆威尼斯雙年展、福岡亞洲美術館、保羅·蓋蒂博物館、瓦倫西亞現代藝術館、挪威國家當代藝術館、里昂當代藝術館以及大都會藝術博物館等。
邱志傑習慣收藏石刻拓印紙上作品，收藏內不少文字原本為公共記事之用，然而他在上面用一層層水泥刻帖，書寫革命性文字與標語，從上古的甲骨文到毛澤東風格的字體。每層水泥風乾、刻帖完成後，再澆一層新水泥，之前刻下的文字便了無踪跡，便於書寫新的內容。這樣完成的作品便是一個個埋藏許多文字的水泥墩，以及一系列拓墨紙上作品。《紀念碑》系列與藝術家其他表演/裝置作品類似，不是簡單的藝術品，而是記錄了顛覆的行為。邱氏挑戰拓墨傳統，改變原有的宣傳方式，定義了技術與意識形態間的關係。其作品為中國政治史提供了一個有力的註腳，更向共同記憶中的紀念碑意義積極發問。
