《宇宙即我心》這個系列，是劉國松在90年代中期的展覽同名創作。這個名字來自於一篇年輕的毛澤東在1917年撰寫的一篇文章〈心之力〉，後來被視為未來革命領導者建立一個賦予人民權利國家的象徵。
《宇宙即我心之四》（拍品編號518）是一件抽象山水作品，尺幅宏大，充滿劉國松創於1963年的標誌性「抽筋剝皮」法和「拓墨畫」風格，與2014年10月蘇富比拍賣出的《寒山平遠》作品相似，這幅作品源自百年來對中國畫家影響深遠的道家思想。自於六十年代台北國立故宮博物院欣賞過梁楷（1140-1210年）的畫作後，這些古作更引發他拓展宋代的「潑墨」技法。他認為西方在過去七百年來未曾使用類似技法，直至德國表現主義方有所涉獵。傳統國畫理論旨在如何運墨以創造出最理想的構圖。然而，劉國松卻認為此概念未能表達出黑白的二元本質，因此他以粗筋棉紙獨創其「劉國松紙」，以抽取紙筋的方式展現墨跡間的白線。這樣的效果類似於書法寫作風格中的”飛白”，這種技巧有助其抽象山水畫創造錯綜複雜的山勢輪廓，這樣使用書法風格去描繪山峰和低谷的技法，於《鮮艷奪目的白色》（拍品編號505）中可見一斑。
