仇德樹是抽象及水墨藝術的先鋒之一，同其他藝術家一起，重新以自己的方式演繹傳統，開闢出一片藝術新天地。仇德樹生於上海，自幼便學習傳統水墨畫與篆刻藝術，文化大革命中成為一名紅衛兵畫家，自詡為其藝術生涯的開端。後來他與著名水墨畫家陳家泠（1937 年生）成為師生，共同成立了前衛獨立社團「草草社」，為首批藝術實驗團體之一。社團倡導「獨立精神、獨特技法、獨創風格」，仇氏開始使用「裂變」的撕裂拼接技法創作。其作品在世界各地廣泛展出，包括中國、德國、南韓、香港、台灣、美國、瑞士以及澳大利亞。中國美術館、英國牛津大學、省立台中美術館、美國舊金山亞洲藝術博物館、南韓亞洲藝術博物館以及德國漢堡市政廳等都有收藏仇德樹作品。
