Condition

The work is in good condition overall. There is evidence of light wear and handling around the edges of the work, but this is only visible upon close observation. Examination under ultraviolet light shows light touch-ups on the bottom left corner of the left piece (purple paint), top and right edges of the middle piece (red and purple paint) and the right edge of the right piece (magenta paint).

Such was the statement of the Gelanggang art society, of which Mochtar Apin was a notable cofounder. Reflective of the statement itself, Mochtar Apin’s approach towards art was a persistent quest dedicated to both progress and change. Adulated amongst his peers as a “multi-style” artist, he was celebrated for his creative and innovative tendencies which led him to develop various aesthetic styles throughout his artistic career.
