拍品資料及來源

Ahmad Sadali is highly respected for his understanding of the abstract art genre, including cubism, abstract and colour field painting. Many of his paintings experiment with mixed media and contrasting mediums that toy with sculptural elements. Untitled is a classic piece from his oeuvre, for it incorporates all the artist’s favored motifs and styles. He is one of the pioneering abstract artists in Indonesia, and his paintings are an important addition to the country’s modern art history.

Sadali found inspiration in the natural landscape, as well as his own connection with religion. Brushwork of illuminated gold is a signature motif in the artist's pieces to represent the sun and spiritual enlightenment. A man who felt very deeply, he expressed his emotions viscerally in the artworks, and these feelings resonate with the audience. The act of creativity was ultimately a form of meditation for Sadali, a chance to achieve self-awareness and grow deeper into his faith.
