空間的輕盈、色彩的契合、形體在空間的爭逐,還有面與面的撞擊是我內心的糾葛與恐懼,白色的空寂、藍色的安詳、紫色和橘色的絕望。我不怕老去,也不怕死亡,只要我還能拿畫筆、塗顏料,我就一無所懼。

趙無極的繪畫在歷經了五十年代的敘事與懷古、六十年代的狂草與力度、七十年代重拾水墨的轉折,而至兩千年後,講求的是一片空濛杳靄的意境,其創作越顯輕盈而安靜。趙無極所獨創的藝術表現方式,在各時期皆有所突破,使其在戰後抽象繪畫浪潮中卓絕而立;而他寬和舒暢且具情味的抽象風景,一如南北朝詩人謝靈運藉由對自然的描寫,引出對抱樸含真的想望,中國山水畫傳統的古代文人典範,在趙無極的重新詮釋之後,得到全新的生命,進而能在紛擾窘迫的當代中,再造一個足以安頓心靈的理想境地。
