空、寂、靜

著上墨色，但宣紙的留白仍四處可見，這出其不意的留白，甦醒了。這「空」，對宇宙的和諧是不可或缺的，無論在何處。

1981年，趙無極首度於法國國家級美術殿堂─巴黎大皇宮的國家畫廊舉行個展；1983年，更受中國文化部之邀，首次回杭州母校舉辦個展，並於台北歷史博物館展出。趙無極於八十年代初期的展覽，打開了他在亞洲的知名度，而藉由展覽的機會，他頻繁於亞洲旅行，對他的繪畫亦帶來無形的影響與啟發，東方的哲思在他的創作上愈顯深濃。在此之前，趙無極的繪畫是在縝密的構思中完成的，而發展至此，得以在技巧和意境上甄至全然的放鬆。此時趙無極水墨作品實而更貼近於中國文人傳統，在滲入了西方抽象繪畫的現代性之後，以低限的色彩和逐步去中心化的構圖，展現sublime特質中的空、寂、與靜之美，成為中國文人心中的理想山水，在現代繪畫中最為極致的展現。
