變動中的自然

1954年的《無題》（拍品編號1006）與《風》作於同年，為甲骨文時期少見的水彩作品。趙無極此時的油畫作品多以自然為題，其用色與構圖常與自然相關聯；畫面看來是抽象的，依據其所賦予的自然現象，如風雪、雷電、和陽光等，而產生一種近似聯覺之感。在觀看繪畫的同時，感受風的蕭瑟、雪之蒼茫、雷霆萬鈞、或豔陽之炙熱。在《無題》中，似是感受煙雨之迷濛。對趙無極而言，藍色是安詳的，而紫色卻是絕望的。藍與紫在交錯之間，產生一股適意而對比的節奏感。本著中國文化根源，趙無極追溯傳統文字之根源，提煉其中的宇宙觀與意境。於此，對自然的再現不需託付於形象的描繪，而成為參悟自然造化創造之妙的抽象表現。其所描繪的不再是風景，而是自然；畫中如同象形文字之線條，可視為充塞其中的生命，因而使其繪畫近似於自然中的道之化現。在《無題》不可名狀的細雨之中，趙無極所言說與指涉的意涵，已然超越了一切具體形象所能描繪，而為觀者帶來更為豐富的想像。
