以油畫之彩鑄融傳統書畫精粹

出身書香世家的朱德群，從小便接受堅實的傳統書法訓練，從柳公權的楷書到王羲之的草書，對他來說都不陌生，除練書法外，並雅好中國文學，在唐詩與宋詞上均有所鑽研。他在1955年赴法，當時法國盛行抽象表現主義，許多西方藝術家如蘇拉吉（Pierre Soulages）、米修（Henri Michaux）並從東方哲學與書法中尋求靈感，來自中國的朱德群與他們身處相同的環境，對於書法藝術的美學，有更深層的理解與感悟，便自然地將它運用到抽象繪畫的表現中，開創了極富個人特色的作品。在60年代初期，他偏愛用藍黑色濃重的油彩，以半厚塗的筆法營造畫面，體現於1968年的《構圖第285號》，他以不同明度的藍彩為底，當中寬窄、厚薄互異的墨黑線條由左至右縱橫捭闔，書法筆墨裡的俯仰、頓挫、勾納化為油彩，施展出一幅壯闊、極具結構性與生氣的構圖，譜出如交響曲般的激昂樂音。強勁的線條與色塊的律動在空間中相互撞擊，迸發出多重的能量。而當中若寶石般的黃彩，畫龍點睛地燃起一抹光亮，製造了戲劇性的張力。其作品看似抽象，但如朱德群所言，他實際上描繪的是自然，他將俯仰自然山水間所得的感悟化為色彩與線條，畫境令人聯想到宋代詩人蘇軾漫遊西湖時所提的詩句：「水光瀲灩晴方好，山色空濛雨亦奇。」水天一色，令人神往。
