Condition
Accompanied by Jadeite Jade Testing certificates no. SJ 137256 and SJ 137257, stating that the carved "Dragon" bangles are natural, nephrite jade. Please refer to the certificates for details.
The nephrite jade bangles are matching, translucent of cream white colour, with greasy surface lustre. Upon close check, there are a few patches of white clouds commonly seen in natural nephrite. Traditional carving, probably dated to Qing Dynasty. Surface abrasions commensurate with age, overall in very good condition.

清朝的典範
軟玉又稱真玉,在中國主要的產地為新疆南部的喀拉喀什河,以及葉爾羌河上游的崑崙山上。軟玉是「玉」的其中一個品種,另一個稱為硬玉,亦即翡翠。古代中國視玉石為「上天之石」,相信它能通達肉體及精神世界,而且是唯一一種完全涵蓋天地陰陽之物。
白色軟玉又名白玉,在軟玉中價值最高。白玉擁有油脂和蠟一般的油潤光澤,質地細膩,結構堅韌,被視為雕刻飾品的上佳材料。儘管不少古文明都崇尚玉文化,但中國利用白玉雕製的飾物造工精細,題材複雜多變,世界稱冠。時至今日,白玉依然是中國璀璨文化的永恆象徵。
一對完好的白玉鐲能存活至今,實非易事。是次拍賣呈獻的這兩對軟玉手鐲(拍品1635及1636)屬於清朝製品,而且曾是香港著名古董商夏洛特·郝思曼夫人(1908-2003)的珍藏,出處不凡。郝思曼夫人生於柏林,長於北京,很早期就已經與古董行家、藏家和博物館合作,對藝術品和古董獨具慧眼。她亦跟工作拍檔Gerald Godfrey創立了一家國際企業,專門出售來自東亞的稀世珍寶。
這對「螭龍」玉鐲以中國傳統祥獸為題,而另外一對紐紋花玉鐲同樣雕工精緻,與香港蘇寶比1988年拍出的芭芭拉·赫頓翡翠手鐲有異曲同工之妙。古語有云:「天圓地方」。圓形代表完整圓美,亦代表天地間永恆的定律。手鐲的形狀傳說在唐朝時開始有所變化,出現了橢圓形的手鐲,外圓內方,又稱作「貴妃鐲」,形狀和這兩對軟玉手鐲相似。
這些軟玉手鐲設計清素高雅,雕刻絲毫不差,充分表現出中國工匠的智慧和工藝,確實難得。
