- Mammuthus primigenius
the monumental skull of an individual Mammuthus primigenius exceptionally preserved, the skull with a piercing elongated cavity above a pair of long tusks powerfully extending out towards the sides with a dramatic curvature, the smoothly patinated light beige tusks covered with characteristic brown streaks and transmuting to a brown colour towards the tapering tips, metal stand and wood base
Condition
The skull is not restored and the bone appears to be intact. There are natural cracks to the upper molars which have been consolidated with resin. The lower jaw is also in good condition with no restorations.
The tusks are complete and are in good condition, including their tips which are intact. They are protected with a coating varnish. The ivory fossil is at least 12000 years old and therefore not subject to CITES. However prospective buyers are advised to seek further information from the relevant customs authorities in order to further export or import the piece as they are responsible for complying with any export or import laws.

一頭猛獁象保存良好的顱骨，清楚展現出前端的空腔，第一批發現此顱骨的探險者因此以為它與傳說中的獨眼巨人有關。事實上正是古希臘人在消失的海岸線上發現了這樣的遺骨，才有了獨眼巨人的傳說。淡棕色的象牙化石壯美動人，這顏色是地底礦物環境所致。
猛獁象是冰川時代最具代表性的生物，是史前人類曾經捕殺的對象。動物世界的生存挑戰無比嚴峻，因此它進化出了如此特別的獠牙，不但用於自我保護，更可以刨開積雪層，尋找被掩埋的食物。小猛獁象出生伊始，象牙便已成形，此後在一生當中不斷生長，直至死亡。
