1952年，井上有一與森田子龍共同創立了「墨人會」，旨在把書道從其根深蒂固的傳統形式中釋放出來，重新開啟無限的視覺可能。1959年，井上有一參與了第二屆卡塞爾文獻展，其作品更在阿姆斯特丹市立博物館、巴登巴登國家藝術館等知名展覽中展出，到了1960年代時，他已經憑藉自己大膽奔放的單字繪畫贏得了國際認可。此作中展示「山」字，筆劃遒勁，姿態瀟灑，墨色濃淡不一，作於1966年，是井上有一藝術生涯中期的代表作——深淺不一的色調與連綿不絕的筆法充分發揮水墨的豐富質感。與其較早期作品與1980年代的晚期作品相比，藝術家在此作中減弱對畫筆的控制，不經意間潑灑的墨跡揭示出自己與創作媒材間持續不斷的溝通。是次拍賣會也將呈獻「墨人會」另一位創始人、井上有一的導師森田子龍的作品（拍品編號2820及2921），厚重而謹慎的墨跡與微妙的墨色形成對比，與井上作品有異曲同工之妙。
