of circular form, the flat top carved through the layers of red lacquer with a magpie amongst flowering prunus, the base similarly carved, all against a diaper ground, the interiors lacquered black

There is a 4cm by 1cm repair to the rim of the box which has also been re-lacquered. There is also a 5cm area below this to the interior base that has cracked and buckled. There are also minor cracks to the lacquer to the interior and exterior rim. There is slight loss to the end of one of the branches to the exterior cover and a crack running through one leaf. There is also a 1.8cm crack running through the rim of the cover and four other shorter ones. There is also a light crack running the circumference of the interior of the cover.
