For the left scroll, there are a few tiny restored areas to the top section; the embroidery of one tree and the wings of the birds has not been completed and the original sketching is visible in the catalogue photo. The pair is otherwise in overall good condition with occasional expected loose threads, minor foxing, creases and stains.

Compare also hanging scrolls embroidered with birds and flowers, such as a pair sold in our London rooms, 30th March 2005, lot 207; two from the collection of Linda Wrigglesworth sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, the first, 27th May 2008, lot 1558, and included in the present sale, lot 3727; and the second, 31st May 2010, lot 1890; and another pair sold at Christie’s New York, 19th September 2007, lot 151.
