此幀畫置案頭兩月餘矣。庚子六月，茝岑老兄見而愛之，屬書款。吳俊卿。
庚子六月，紅鐙之謠將蠢然蠕動一時，所謂富貴神仙者灰燼幾半。茝岑嘗過敝廬，慨懷欷歔。孔子云：於我如浮雲。此幀即有此也。茝岑已物化數年，子堅鑒家得之，屬誌年月，不禁有黃罏之感。己酉閏月，俊卿再記。
鈐印：「昌碩」、「苦鐵」。

毛子堅舊藏海上名家書畫（編號261-269）
毛子堅（1882-1954），名經疇，上海人。家道豐瞻，清末民初期間，積極參與當地公共事務，擔任不少社團公職，在仕紳階層中聲譽俱隆。毛氏雅好藝術，日後專注社會活動，海上藝事仍多有參與，與吳昌碩以降之海上畫家極為熟稔，與吳湖帆更具姻親之誼。本輯所集均其後人直接提供，廣涉清中晚期海派名家，雖多屬成扇小品，惟質量極精，大有可觀矣！
註：一九○○年，庚子拳變，華北烽煙遍野，東南膏膄之地，幸賴江南諸省督撫之力，未及披禍。缶老時居蘇州，故得享安靜之境，寫成本幅，撿贈老友。題中所謂「紅鐙之謠」指拳匪作亂一事，義和團中即有「紅鐙照」一支。圖中紅花墨葉，茂密豐滿，色燦眩目，惟世事莫測，未及十載，物在人非，已轉歸毛子堅氏，亦昌碩老友也，故缶老重睹添題，無不慨然，蓋「富貴神仙」豈亦如浮雲哉！
