The vase is in overall good condition. There are expected minor wear and bruises to the corners of the mouth and foot, as well as tiny areas of pitting to the edges. The catalogue illustration is a tinge redder than the actual colour of the stone.

黃玉方壺作古銅器形，紋飾極為簡約，盡顯玉質盈潤悅目。北京故宮藏一件相似玉壺，帶蓋，錄於《故宮博物院藏品大系：玉器編》，卷10：清，2011年，圖版14。R.H.R. Palmer 伉儷珍藏一器，2004年4月25日售於香港蘇富比，編號118。另比較二件器形較大之白玉蓋壺，其一售於紐約蘇富比1989年9月28/29日，編號486，另一售於倫敦佳士得1981年12月17日，編號471。Gerald Godfrey 另藏一件十七世紀褐玉壺，1995年10月30日售於香港佳士得，編號915，也可資比對。

古青銅方壺原型，可參考陝西西安高窰出土西漢銅壺，現存西安文物保護考古所，刊錄於《中國青銅器全集．秦漢》，卷12，北京，1998年，圖版53。
