The bowl is in overall good condition, except for a minute retouched flake of approx. 0.2 cm to the outer mouthrim. There are also typical original firing imperfections, including iron specks to the interior, areas of discolouration to the mouth and base, a few body lines, including a stained one partially concealed under the curtain, as well as minute enamel losses. The unglazed footrim has a shallow kiln flake of approx. 0.4 cm.

昭君出塞圖盌，盡現康熙瓷之精巧高技，以釉上彩再現山水繪畫與木刻版畫之效果，取礬紅或黑彩細描人物輪廓，精妙入裡，駿馬肌骨、人物衣褶莫不歷歷在目。對比人物的細緻描繪，紋飾中之山石蒼樹，筆觸有力酣暢，色彩層次豐富，呈現昭君將入異邦之際，塞外荒草蔓蔓，宛如世外之境。

康熙御瓷罕作民間故事場景題材，類同此件拍品之器形紋飾者，更是鳳毛麟角。比較玫茵堂珍藏一件尺寸略小，相同器形之五彩盌，繪仙人騎驢，刊於康蕊君，《玫茵堂中國陶瓷》，卷4（II），倫敦，2010年，圖版1740。另一件笠式盃，綴張生與崔鶯鶯長亭送別一幕，出自元代王實輔撰《西廂記》，出處同上，圖版1741，2012年4月4日售於香港蘇富比，編號51。

昭君出塞圖盌，取材元代馬致遠（1250-1321）作雜劇《漢宮秋》，敘述西漢宮女王昭君於元帝時入宮，因不願賄絡宮廷畫師毛延壽，而遭醜化，不得皇帝青睞，直至昭君自願出嫁匈奴呼韓邪單于合親，元帝始知昭君貌美，然為時太晚，合親已成定局，毛延壽惡計亦終遭斬首。此盌再現昭君出塞時，美人沉魚落雁之景。
