描述

  • Wood
vertically oriented, the rectangular well-variegated stone panel with grayish-green colors suggestive of rippling water, set into a zitan support, the upright struts with a central groove to receive the panel, flanked by openwork volute spandrels, joined by a straight stretcher, a panel with two shaped openings over a canted, scrolling and beaded apron, resting on slab feet formed by two out-scrolling discs carved with flowerheads (2)

Condition

The apron is joined in the center and the openwork panels have inset patches indicating that the stand has been possibly reduced in length. There is expected wear to the surface, some sun bleaching to the wood and the stone panel has chips to the edges and wear.

拍品資料及來源

The present table screen appears to conform precisely with regulation books of the Qing dynasty as described by Wang Shixiang 'ruyitou baogu quhua zhanya', a combination of cloud scrolls, drum-like circles, circular flowerheads and standing spandrels on a slab-form base. This type of base appears not only on table screens but was popular on lantern stands as well. For further discussion see Wang Shixiang, Connoisseurship of Chinese Furniture Vol. 1,, Hong Kong, 1990,  p. 92.
