上款：「病樹」即陳祖壬（1892-1966），字君任，江西新城人，室號「佳住樓」，著名詞家。他曾任教師多年，一九三五年投陳三立門下習文，與袁思亮、李國松合稱「義門三傑」，後潛心著述，與南北詞壇多有往還，人皆視其為狂才。

註：陳少梅與陳祖壬結識於沽上，本幅即按病樹詞意入畫，圖成於一九三六年春，隨即遍示詞壇仝道，廣邀填詞應之，集向迪琮、夏承燾、陳曾壽、袁思亮、林葆恆等十餘家，俱一時勝選，歷時逾兩載，分書於圖上下，足証徵集用心之艱。尤見難得者，乃陳衡恪、陳寅恪季弟陳方恪書於其上，可見義寧陳氏一門學風之範。

本幅寫於陳少梅中歲之時，用筆有別其銳利剛勁的北宗風格，以淡彩渲染，筆法飄逸寫意，構圖簡鍊，袛見高閣上憑欄眺遠，春烟籠罩，垂柳夾道中，玉人乘車遠去，畫境依詞境而生。寫柳尤見輕盈，枝條柔弱，飛絮飄盪，與病樹詞意之婉約旖旎，得契合之妙。
