cast seated in dhyanasana with hands held in dhyanamudra, the figure of Buddha depicted seated on a rectangular flange resting on a constricted column and a gently splayed four-legged plinth, clad in long loose robes draped over the left shoulder and leaving the right shoulder and arm bare, rendered with a meditative facial expression surmounted by an usnisa, all resting on a plinth finely decorated to the front with scrollwork, the reverse of the figure with two small loops for the attachment of a mandorla, traces of malachite encrustation, wood stand and wood box
Condition
Good overall condition, with just minor bruises and insignificant loss to the detail, general surface wear and typical malachite-green oxidisation, especially to the interior.

The treatment of the drapery on this solidly cast bronze sculpture of Buddha closely adheres to Gandharan prototypes, but the mode of expression is distinctly sinicised.
