cast in low relief against a flame-shaped mandorla with a figure of Buddha seated in dhyanasana on a slightly trapezoidal flange atop a splayed four-legged plinth, the deity rendered dressed in voluminous robes detailed with pronounced striations, depicted meditative and framed by a circular nimbus of lotus petals, stylised striations and flaming swirls on the mandorla, the pointed tip of the mandorla decorated in low relief with a small Buddha, the reverse of the mandorla undecorated, wood stand and wood box

Good overall condition, with just minor dents, surface wear and oxidisation.

Although undated, this bronze figure is stylistically identical to lot 3204 in this sale, inscribed with a dedicatory inscription dated to the Taihe period, suggesting that it too dates from this era. See also another bronze figure of the Taihe period, dated to 484, in Boxing County Museum, Shandong, illustrated in Zhongguo meishu quanji.
