This group comprises a portrait of the Chinese politician and general 'Li Hung-chang' (Li Hongzhang, 1823-1901) after John Thomson; 14 views in and around Peking (Beijing), of which at least 10 are by Thomas Child (others might be attributed to him), showing views of the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, other temples, a tea shop, and a snuff shop; 3 photographs by William Saunders: a quartet of Chinese musicians, a Chinese family at home, and a fine portrait of three men (two wearing Chinese raincoats); 4 views of Shanghai; a view of Canton; 2 views of Hong Kong; and 2 hand-tinted Japanese portraits attributed to Kimebei Kusakabe (nos. 99 'Wayside Resting Place' and 133 'Harakiri').
