"This nautical chart is the work of John William Norie (1772-1843), an English hydrographer who operated a private nautical school and publishing firm that specialized in nautical charts and sailing directions. Norie drew most of the charts that his company produced. His best-known publications - A Complete Set of Nautical Tables (1803) and A Complete Epitome of Practical Navigation (1805) - were so effective that they remained in publication for well over a century, guiding sailors around the world" (All Under Heaven).
