A RARE PATRIOTIC STREET POSTER extolling the success of the Chinese army against the French at Bac Ninh in northern Vietnam, which had historically been garrisoned by China's Guanxi army. The Bac Ninh Campaign consisted of a series of clashes between French and Chinese forces between 6-24 March 1884, preceded by the battle illustrated in this print. The following campaign resulted in the French capture of Bac Ninh and the defeat of the Chinese army. The imagery includes archers, cavalry, cannons, and interestingly, a hot air balloon.
