此項鍊飾手工製作螺旋及銀線，將幾何抽象圖形與符號標誌優雅結合在一起，與考爾德的動態雕塑與水粉作品有異曲同工之妙。

螺旋不僅有催眠效果，更是空間、運動及宇宙的象徵。考爾德作品中對線條與幾何形狀極為重視，多位現代派藝術家讓‧阿爾普、皮耶·蒙德里安及瓦西里·康丁斯基在也同樣關注線條與形狀。

考爾德在此作中使用銀線與繩子，這種原始的審美受尚古主義與其在巴黎發現的黃金時代青銅器物影響。現代主義藝術家挪用古代文化標誌，試圖尋找一種與傳統藝術不同的、「更為純正的」美學。

亞歷山大·考爾德曾為妻子路易莎、親朋好友如佩姬·古根漢、西蒙·波娃與喬治亞·歐姬芙等製作首飾。這對其來講是非常私人的體驗，他在這一過程中使用新的美學靈感，每件作品都獨一無二，與其靜態和動態雕塑重要性不相上下。2013年，考爾德的作品《項鍊》於11月14日紐約蘇富比1,985,000美元成交，創下考爾德珠寶作品的世界拍賣紀錄。

此條項鍊於1940年代初製作，並於1943年在紐約現代藝術博物館（MoMA）的考爾德回顧展上展出。考爾德也因此成為當時在MoMA舉行回顧展的最年輕藝術家。
