弗朗索瓦·雨果是文豪維克多·雨果的曾孫，專職設計，在四十年代為可可·香奈兒及克里斯汀·迪奧製作現代新穎的鈕扣。弗朗索瓦的兄長夫婦尚及瓦倫丁是巴黎超現實主義及前衛藝術家巴布羅·畢加索、尚·考克多及佳吉列夫的好友，弗朗索瓦也因此成為沙龍聚會的一分子，更與這些藝術家交好。畢加索是首位向他提出合創銀碟的藝術家，其後更跟他創作金飾珠寶系列。其他藝術家如考克多及馬克斯·恩斯特隨後亦與他合作。弗朗索瓦之子皮耶於1972年加入金匠作坊，並於目錄中增添更多藝術家，他至今仍創製限量手工作品。

畢加索及馬克斯·恩斯特創作的《魚》、《橢圓獎章》、《苜蓿》、《面具》及《低頭的鳥》（拍品編號1,2,3,61,62）實是兩位二十世紀最具代表性的藝術家以及當時最富才華的金匠合作而成的絕佳典例。
