The overall condition is very good, except for some typical nibbles to the rims, including a slightly polished one to the outer foot. There are also some expected surface scratches to the lip. There are some natural veinings in the stone. The actual tone is slightly colder than the catalogue illustration suggests.

Although this rounded rectangular form was extremely popular at court during the mid-Qing period, and plain bottles of this material are known, carved examples are relatively unusual, and the carving style in most cases suggest a nineteenth century date for the workmanship.
